The original Helikite aerostat was designed and patented by Sandy Allsopp in 1993. Since then Allsopp Helikites Ltd has been producing Helikites for all manner of professional purposes. Helikites are used by the military, police and governments as well as for commercial uses such as science and aerial photography. Our Helikites are the preferred aerostat for most situations due to their all-weather capability, high lift and toughness. In military trials and in commercial use, Helikites have survived extreme weather which left other aerostats torn to shreds.

The Helikite-Hotspot is not just a Helikite alone. It also includes specially made ancillary equipment to provide the most simple and trouble-free Helikite deployment in all situations. With the Hotspot you get absolutely everything needed except for the helium which can always be purchased locally or via the internet.

Helikite Hotspots Aerostat

A Helikite Hotspots Aerostat is the combination of a helium balloon with a carbon fibre framed kite. The patented design of our Helikites overcomes the shortfalls of normal tethered balloons since the high winds that send other aerostats crashing to the ground will push helikites higher into the sky.

Harnessing both the pure, reliable lift of helium and the raw power of wind, the Helikite has unrivalled payload performance. Twice the load bearing ability of similar sized blimps.

Even the smallest Helikites fly superbly in high winds. Stability is ensured by the aerodynamic design, the stiff carbon-fibre spar and the relatively high gas pressure.

Helikites were designed to fly unattended for extreme lengths of time in all weathers. Helikites are essentially aerial in habit and with their excellent helium holding ability they have great endurance.

Frequently Asked Questions

How high can the Helikite Hotspots fly?

With enough flying line, the 0.7m3 Helikite Hotspot can fly up to 1,000ft and the 3m3 Helikite Hotspot up to 4,000ft. BUT this altitude may not be allowed by law in many areas. Also the Mi-Fi device will not send WiFi signal more than about 300ft. So 300ft is the practical limit for MiFi Helikite Hotspot use, which is why there is enough flying line for this altitude supplied.

What about the helium?

The Personal Helikite Hotspot can be filled from 2 lightweight disposable helium tanks – easily available from Amazon, Walmart etc. You need the ones that will fill 50″ x 9″ party balloons.

The Professional Helikite Hotspot needs filling from hired helium cylinders available nationwide from Air Products, Praxair or other local helium gas suppliers.

What weather can the Helikite Hotspot fly in?

The Personal Helikite Hotspot can fly in nil wind and winds up to 25mph. The Professional Helikite Hotspot can fly in nil wind and winds up to 35 mph. The Professional Helikite Hotspot can also fly in heavy rain, even without wind. Whereas, the Personal can only fly in rain if there is wind.

Can I use any Mifi Device?

Yes. Some have longer range WiFi than others. As a general rule, those with shorter battery life (about 6 hours) seem to have more range (about 300ft). Those with longer battery life (8 hours) seem to have shorter range (about 200ft).
